| WHAT IS THE HESPERIA RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT? |
The Hesperia Recreation and Park District is an independent special district created in 1957 by Hesperia area residents to provide recreation facilities and
programs for the proper use of leisure time and conservation of the recreational
and open space resources of the area.
The Hesperia Recreation and Park District encompasses approximately
100 square miles including the City of Hesperia and some unincorporated areas
of Oak Hills, Summit Valley and Phelan.

| HESPERIA HISTORICAL SITES |
Within the boundaries of Hesperia Recreation and Park District, fifteen (15) historical sites have been placed to help preserve Hesperia’s heritage. Each marker is carved from granite and engraved with a brief historical description from that site. The sites are named and marked in a complementary brochure available at Lime Street Park Community Center. Once all the sites have been visited, a patch is available for a $3.00 fee. For more information, contact the District Office.
|
| PAPERBACK EDITIONS OF JOHN SWISHER BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE |
|
The Hesperia Area Recreation District Foundation is proud to offer for sale the books “Bits and Pieces” and “Mojave Rendezvous” written by local historian John M. Swisher. Both books are written about the history and lore of the high desert. Mr. Swisher began his exploration of the Mojave Desert in 1937. His knowledge and experiences have been written into these books to preserve them for today’s residents and future generation. The books are available at the District Office and the Victor Valley Museum for $18.00 each, includes sales tax.
|
| MEMORIAL TREE GROVE |
The Hesperia Recreation and Park District offers a wonderful way of remembering family members, relatives and friends – it is called the Memorial Tree Program at Hesperia Lake Park. The Memorial Tree Program includes a 10” x 12” granite plaque with personalized inscription and a choice of one 15-gallon tree from an approved tree list. The granite plaque has a 2 line minimum and 4 lines maximum. Your cost covers materials only. Hesperia Recreation and Park District provides the labor and does not profit from this program. For additional information, brochures are available upon request from District Office.
